Lamina System has installed their popular new 1420 Packline SA at CEPAC (Doncaster), UK.
The Packline will be used to glue collated corrugated flat packs that have traditionally been taped using many out-workers. Lamina's Packline is a 'Smart' machine meaning it is set-up free and can run different sizes/thicknesses of Fefco 402 on every feed if required and glue bead lengths are set automatically. Due to the packs being hot melt glued it means they are stronger and more rigid than tapes. Companies are finding they can use cheaper lower grade corrugated, sometimes changing from double wall to single wall. However, the real savings are with staff, meaning a speedy return on investment.
The machine was sold by Finishline Machinery who is the Sales Agent for Lamina System in UK & Irish markets. Neil Thayer (Finishline owner) says, "This is the fourth Lamina Packline installed in 2024 in UK with more on order that will be installed in the coming months."

Easypack (POP) have installed a 3rd Bickers GLUEJET® at their facility in Wisbech, UK. The XY Glue Plotter was exhibited at Drupa 2024 then sent directly to Easypack. This GLUEJET® benefits from the latest technology which includes triple smart gluing heads for both X & Y directions and dynamic radar zone around the high-speed moving carriage giving the highest possible level of safety.  The first GLUEJET® was installed in 2015 followed by a second in 2021. All 3 gluers are used in the production of point-of-sale FSDU’s for many well-known brands. “The drive for this purchase came from both newly won contracts and a general increase in workloads” explained Phil Hubbard, Easypack G.M.

Image Factory (part of the Paragon Group) have just taken delivery of a new high specification GLUEJET® from Bickers. The installation took place during March 2024 at their site in Chippenham, UK. This is their second XY glue plotter from Bickers with the first machine being installed in 2014. This first GLUEJET® has also been upgraded with the triple smart heads meaning up to 3 lines can applied in the same pass giving a potential application speed of 6m of glue per second. The glue plotter will mainly be used for gluing FSDU’s and POS displays. This installation marks the 80th Bickers installation in the UK & Irish markets proving we are by far the market leaders in this area of print finishing with more installs on the way. The GLUEJET® was sold by the Bickers UK & Irish Sales Agent, Neil Thayer of Finishline Machinery.

FERO Retail Marketing Ltd based in Sandy, UK has just taken delivery of a Lamina Packline SA in early 2024. The machine is a fresh and newly designed hot melt packing line for gluing flat corrugated packs (FEFCO 401/2) up to 50mm thick, running at 300-350ph. Lamina has wanted to build a machine for this purpose for some time so when Garry Woods (FERO Operations Director, Sandy) and Jesper Hjalmarsson (Lamina System Design Manager) got together, the project began. The main USP is due to its genius of design and construction, there is no need for any set-ups, meaning different sizes and capacity of collated packs can be hand-fed continuously without stopping. Traditionally this job is carried out by small armies of out-workers using vast quantities of vinyl branded tapes. It is possible to add an inkjet print head to the Packline to enable logos and information to be printed directly onto the packs. Early calculations suggest a very attractive ROI of around 12-18 months.

Neil Thayer owner of Finishline Machinery says “It’s not every day we see a revolutionary machine that has the potential to disrupt print finishing. The Packline SA was built for flat corrugated packs of POS work, however it could easily be used in other industries where this kind of corrugated packing is required.”

Swanline Group based in Staffordshire, UK have increased their gluing and taping capacity. In March 2023 they took delivery of a Lamina 2200 GL Gluer with taping machine and feeder options. After an on-site demo the Lamina was chosen as it offered the best value due to it being two machines in one! The twin operator system allows two jobs to be run simultaneously, meaning left and right feeding can be glue/glue, tape/tape or glue/tape, size permitting. The gluing element applies straight-line glue beads making it perfect for simple boxes and display work. The blanks are hand fed with glue being applied automatically, then folded over and pressed making a finished box. The sheets for taping can be hand fed also but this machine also has a movable feeder for longer runs and can easily be attached. In addition, the twin tape heads are set in series meaning two lines of tape can be applied close to each other for e-commerce work.

In addition to this, Display UK in Dublin has had a GLUEJET® since 2014 and was the first in the group. The late summer of 2021 sees a second Bickers GLUEJET® installed into the Dublin site meaning across all three sites there are nine GLUEJET® in total.

Delta Group First with Lamina Display Gluer

As a P.O.S. print industry leader, The Delta Group, based in London UK are often first to adopt new advances in machine technologies. The installation of a 34.16 GLL from Lamina System during the summer of 2021 is the first of its kind to be installed in the UK. This machine is used to apply glue and fold many FSDU’s automatically with its USP being that it can glue and close bespoke flaps within a typical display unit’s main body, sides and top, even at various angles, in a single pass. Despite the large sheet sizes the machine’s footprint is relatively compact. This line has 3 modules that can easily be accessed due to them being on floor rails that allow opening each section as required.

2 Lamina Gluers at W.E. Roberts Ltd

Swedish manufacturer Lamina System has installed their 14.10 CLG Auto Folder Gluer and 2200 GL Gluer with Taping Unit at W.E. Roberts Ltd based in Northfleet, Kent, UK. Both machines will be used to glue various types and sizes of packaging boxes. These purchases follow on from a Lamina SA Laminator installed last year in 2020. W.E. Roberts Ltd are experiencing a need to increase output as demand has increased hence the new machinery.

As part of its ongoing growth plans, Suffolk based Easypack POP Displays has increased its FSDU gluing capacity by adding a second GLUEJET® XY Gluer from Bickers in Germany. Easypack took the easy decision to purchase a second machine after years of reliable service from their first. As work levels increased during 2021 many investments have been made to keep up with demand. The XY Glue Plotter is used for combination gluing of pressure sensitive hot melt and PVA in any pattern required giving strong bonds for POS display work that may carry heavy items in varied conditions. The main USP of the Bickers GLUEJET® is its state-of-the-art ability to apply up to three lines of glue in a single pass on the X & Y directions at up to 6m per second application speed, together with full 360 degree access around the rising feed tables.

Challenge Packaging, just outside Eastbourne, UK has just had a crash-lock gluer installed from Lamina System, Sweden. The compact 14.10 gluer is a fully automatic folder gluer that is equipped with a non-stop suction belt feeder and a variety of guides and belts to handle standard one-point boxes or three-point crash-lock boxes. The simple batch separation system prior to banding makes it very operator friendly. The machine has been placed on rails meaning sections can be easily rolled apart to give full access during set ups. This Lamina gluer will compliment other existing box gluers at Challenge enabling some flexibility and increased production which is much needed due to a huge increase in orders. In addition, Lamina has retro fitted a feeder and bobbins to a Lamina taping machine that was installed 18 months ago. This will help with the growing need for more e-commerce packaging.

POLLARDS ENHANCES QUALITY WITH ADDITIONAL INVESTMENT

Rigid box specialist Pollard Group, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, has invested a further £200,000 in new equipment for its Leicestershire factory.

The company has installed a Lamina 1116 Blackline fully-auto litho sheet laminator. This machine will meet the demands of a significant new order from a major high street retailer.

The new machine will enable Pollards to produce printed liners for the insides of boxes to an extremely high standard and around three times faster than its previous method. It will further enhance the company’s reputation as the UK’s leading supplier of high-quality luxury and gift packaging solutions for a variety of markets including premium drinks, hair care and beauty.

The machine was supplied by Lamina’s UK sales agent Finishline Machinery after Pollards’ managing director Mark Pollard saw it on show at Drupa.

Dublin, Ireland-based McGowans Print are Ireland’s leading digital printer and an international leader in print innovation. The company operates more than 25 digital presses and is a market leader in Ireland for both cut-sheet and superwide-format digital production printing. With much of its business centered on high-quality display graphics applications, McGowans Print is able to use its new Lamina Crash Lock Gluer 2216 and Freestanding Workingstation 3020 installed in 2018 to meet existing demand for corrugated display work, as well as to develop new business producing high-end, full-color corrugated packaging. This investment compliments the 2 Bickers glue plotters already in action.

Summer 2017 - To keep up with the high workload due to business growth, KEP Print Group, Ltd. based in Tamworth, UK has installed a high-speed Lamina Blackline 1620 FA 1600/800 Litho Laminator. Faced with increasing sales and a laminating machine that was running at maximum output, Managing Director Mark Plowman knew he needed to invest in a faster laminating machine. “We were running our old Lamina in 24-hour shifts to keep up with the demand,” Plowman explained. “The new machine runs nearly four times faster and has shorter make-ready times, so our previous 24-hour workload can be done in one shift.” The new Lamina Blackline 1620 is a high-speed fully automatic sheet-to-sheet laminating and mounting machine and produces high-end corporate retail packaging and POS advertising display materials. The new Blackline has a higher capacity feeder, allowing full pallet quantities to be loaded into the machine. “With the higher capacity, we spend less time loading the machine,” stated Plowman. “It also uses the latest computer technology which reduces our set up times for each job and leads to a higher quality end product for the consumer. We’re excited to pass on quicker turnaround times and the best products to our customers.”
